Why We Read // my_book_opinions

Hello fellow bookworms.

Welcome to the first post of this series, this series is called, as you may have noticed, Why We Read and it is pretty self explanatory, but you can, and should, continue reading if you want to know more about it.

ghgh

This project is called “Why We Read” and my goal is to remind readers of the answer for that question. Personally, sometimes I feel overwhelmes with ARC’s reviews, blog posts, readathons and some years I stress about my goodreads goal too, and I believe many readers feel the same way, I want them to remember what is reading a book for the sole reason of enjoying it.

I think that we, in the book community, do more than just reading, we feel. We read because we want to escape, we read for the breaks we take along the way while reading a book because there are too many feeling hiting our hearts, we read because we think about plot twists and fictional characters when we’re not doing it, we read to feel.

I invited a group of people to help me with this project and, this month, the person I interviewed and who is helping me with my goal is the lovely my_book_opinions.

Books I am taking to college

Hello fellow book lovers!

Today, I’ll be sharing with you the books I am taking with me to college.

If you follow me on twitter probably you already know I am going off to college, actually I’m going in the day before you are reading this, or at least the day before I am publishing this, and because I can’t take my entire shelf with me, I needed to narrow it down to only a few books. I am going to live in my godmother’s house (again, if you follow me on twitter you may know why) and I am simply taking three physical books with me so I don’t take to much space.

So here they are, the physical books and e-books I am dragging with me to college.

Hogwarts House Book Recommendations // Slytherin

Hello fellow bookworms.

The day has arrived, the last day of my Hogwarts house book recommendations, today I’ll be recommending books to the most misjudged house in Hogwarts. you have guessed it: SLYTHERIN!

I’m always saying Slytherins aren’t as bad as everyone thinks, there are good Slytherins and there are bad Gryffindors too, but that is something not many people seem to understand. There are also great people in the book community who are Slytherins, like Kat from Katytastic and Natasha from Tashapolis.

There are so many books in the next recommendations I have not read but I believe they are great.

Winning will make you famous.
Losing means certain death.

The nation of Panem, formed from a post-apocalyptic North America, is a country that consists of a wealthy Capitol region surrounded by 12 poorer districts. Early in its history, a rebellion led by a 13th district against the Capitol resulted in its destruction and the creation of an annual televised event known as the Hunger Games. In punishment, and as a reminder of the power and grace of the Capitol, each district must yield one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 through a lottery system to participate in the games. The ‘tributes’ are chosen during the annual Reaping and are forced to fight to the death, leaving only one survivor to claim victory.

When 16-year-old Katniss’s young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. , she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

An untested young princess must claim her throne, learn to become a queen, and combat a malevolent sorceress in an epic battle between light and darkness in this spectacular debut—the first novel in a trilogy.

Young Kelsea Raleigh was raised in hiding after the death of her mother, Queen Elyssa, far from the intrigues of the royal Keep and in the care of two devoted servants who pledged their lives to protect her. Growing up in a cottage deep in the woods, Kelsea knows little of her kingdom’s haunted past . . . or that its fate will soon rest in her hands.

Long ago, Kelsea’s forefathers sailed away from a decaying world to establish a new land free of modern technology. Three hundred years later, this feudal society has divided into three fearful nations who pay duties to a fourth: the powerful Mortmesne, ruled by the cunning Red Queen.

Now, on Kelsea’s nineteenth birthday, the tattered remnants of the Queen’s Guard—loyal soldiers who protect the throne—have appeared to escort the princess on a perilous journey to the capital to ascend to her rightful place as the new Queen of the Tearling.

Though born of royal blood and in possession of the Tear sapphire, a jewel of immense power and magic, Kelsea has never felt more uncertain of her ability to rule. But the shocking evil she discovers in the heart of her realm will precipitate an act of immense daring, throwing the entire kingdom into turmoil—and unleashing the Red Queen’s vengeance. A cabal of enemies with an array of deadly weapons, from crimson-caped assassins to the darkest blood magic, plots to destroy her. But Kelsea is growing in strength and stealth, her steely resolve earning her loyal allies, including the Queen’s Guard, led by the enigmatic Lazarus, and the intriguing outlaw known simply as “the Fetch.”

Kelsea’s quest to save her kingdom and meet her destiny has only just begun. Riddled with mysteries, betrayals, and treacherous battles, Kelsea’s journey is a trial by fire that will either forge a legend . . . or destroy her.

20820994 “We were all heading for each other on a collision course, no matter what. Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story.”

At first, Jude and her twin brother Noah, are inseparable. Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude wears red-red lipstick, cliff-dives, and does all the talking for both of them.

Years later, they are barely speaking. Something has happened to change the twins in different yet equally devastating ways . . . but then Jude meets an intriguing, irresistible boy and a mysterious new mentor.

The early years are Noah’s to tell; the later years are Jude’s. But they each have only half the story, and if they can only find their way back to one another, they’ll have a chance to remake their world.

This radiant, award-winning novel from the acclaimed author of The Sky Is Everywhere will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once.

Top 5 Thursday: Cover changes that blessed my soul // Fantasy

Hello fellow bookworms!

I bet you’ve already experienced the horror of having the hurge to buy a book, walking to the bookstore to get that beautiful book you saw on that booktube video and all of a sudden you see the book and it’s so ugly that you, actually, want to burn it (just kidding). I know that felling, I feel it from time to time!

But today, as the title already told ya, I won’t be talking about cover changes that ruined my aesthetic but book covers that changed and, actually, blessed my pour soul.

Here they are, the top 5 fantasy reads that changed their covers for something much more pleasing to the eye.

The first cover is the original cover of this book, the second one is the movie cover, which is the one I have. The original covers are good in the rest of the series, but I can’t stand the first one, I believe the second one is a more realistic version of what the maze looked like.

I do not have a problem with the original covers but the ones they released some years ago, you know, the ones that make the Hogwarts Castle when they’re alined are so much better.

My Harry Potter collection is a mix of many editions, I do not own the first book in physical format, I own the second one in english in this Bloomsbury edition, I have the third and fourth in the beautiful edition I just talked about, my fifth book has a british adult edition cover and I do not own the last ones yet.

Let me tell you that I do not own a single Percy Jackson book but if I ever did, I would own the covers that came out most recently because the others are UGLY! I am not judging the books, the books are amazing, but the original covers… not so much.

Hello fellow bookworms!

I am writing this as fast as I can while I am waiting for the email that is going to tell me if I’ll be a student in the university I want, reason number 1 why I am doing it: IF I DON’T DO SOMETHING I AM GOING TO DIE OF ANXIETY! Reason number 2: If the email says a bad thing, then I’ll curl up in a ball and I’ll never blog again or do anything else.

Here they are, the book I read for #TheReadingQuest or, as I like to call it, one more reason why I suck.

Hogwarts House Book Recommendations // Ravenclaw

Hello, fellow bookworms!

Let’s take a moment for you to applaud me because I am writing this post with a week in advance, meaning: I am writing this post that is going live in a week because I’ve no idea of what I’ll be posting this week… Yeah! 😁 Besides, I promised myself I would only watch the new Teen Wolf episode after blogging.

I’ve already posted my book recommendations for my house mates, Gryffindores, and for the loyal, Hufflepuffes, today I’ll be recommend books to my sister’s house, Ravenclaw.

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

This book doesn’t have the most wise characters but this series made me wiser, I was, basicaly, the only person who knew who Antaeus was in my class (even though I kept my mouth shut when the teacher asked because I’m too shy).

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

Just because Mare doesn’t take shit from anyone…

A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay.

When sheltered American good girl Allyson “LuLu” Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Sixteen-year-old Cinder is considered a technological mistake by most of society and a burden by her stepmother. Being cyborg does have its benefits, though: Cinder’s brain interference has given her an uncanny ability to fix things (robots, hovers, her own malfunctioning parts), making her the best mechanic in New Beijing. This reputation brings Prince Kai himself to her weekly market booth, needing her to repair a broken android before the annual ball. He jokingly calls it “a matter of national security,” but Cinder suspects it’s more serious than he’s letting on.

Although eager to impress the prince, Cinder’s intentions are derailed when her younger stepsister, and only human friend, is infected with the fatal plague that’s been devastating Earth for a decade. Blaming Cinder for her daughter’s illness, Cinder’s stepmother volunteers her body for plague research, an “honor” that no one has survived.

But it doesn’t take long for the scientists to discover something unusual about their new guinea pig. Something others would kill for.

The Playslist Book Tag

Hello, fellow bookworms.

Today, I’m going to do an exciting tag, the playlist book tag sums up two of my favourite things ever: books and music. I listen to music every day, I literaly breathe music, I did a post only dedicated to my favourite music at the moment.

Let’s skip the babbling and get to the point, here are the songs that remind me a lot of books I’ve read.

Gotta get back, gotta get free
Cut back down to my knees

I am going to be 100% honest with you and tell you that there is not a reason for me to relate this song to The Raven Boys other than I heard it first in a fan video about the opening credits of this series’ adaptation. Fan Video link.
