The Raven Cycle (aka the series with the best characters ever) Book Tag

Hello, fellow bookworms.

I FINISHED BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE!

After almost two weeks, I finally finished Blue Lily, Lily Blue and oh boy! I loved it, this was, for me, the best book in the series. This book was simpler but at the same time they were throwing new information at me all the time, but it was somehow okay.

I’m not going to give spoilers but the two main ships in this series are finally getting to me… the first one has the phone scenes and the car drives and it is not fair that they can’t be together. The second ship is on the beginning and I don’t even know if it is a thing but I LOVE THEM BOTH and they are so complexed and intense.

I’m sorry for the rambling, let’s get to what we’re here for, today, I’ll be doing the Raven Cycle Tag.

hhh

1. In the books, Maura is the relaxed mom that is Blue’s friend more than an actual mother. Who is your favorite mom character?

There’s no other possible answer than the one I’m going to give: Mrs.Weasley. I’ve said this a million and a thousand times but I consider myself a Wealsey (if we exclude my brown hair), they are such a happy family and I think Molly is what keeps them all together and she runs that family like a boss.

2. Adam wanted to go to Aglionby so he could one day escape where he came from. Have you ever dreamt of living somewhere else? Where?

Since I was 12, I always knew I didn’t want to live in Portugal forever, I want to travel the world, but I also want to live somewhere else.

Just like Adam, I am working hard to escape the place I live in now, not for the same reasons, of course (my poor baby Adam). I always thought I wanted to live in Ireland but that has changed, now I believe that there are other options, better options.

3. In the second book we meet the Gray Man. He is a hit man who loves poetry. Name a book that you thought was going to be one thing but turned out to be something else.

I think many people are going to relate to this, so here it goes: I didn’t like Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.

After entering the Harry Potter world so many times, through the books or the movies, real pieces of art, The Cursed Child was just so upsetting to read. I must admit that the idea of the alternate versions created in this book were really creative, but the writing and the story were not something I liked.

After so many years, I thought that I would be blessed to read about Hogwarts again, but it wasn’t the Hogwarts I read about in the Harry Potter series, it was not my home.

giphy

4. Gansey has searched most of his life for a buried king who is promised to grant one wish. What is one wish you would ask Glendower?

I don’t know, and I mean it: I don’t actually know what is the thing I would ask Glendower for.

5. In this series you get to see Greenmantle as a fleshed out character but also as a villain. Name your favorite villain.

SPOILERS FOR RED QUEEN! Skip to the next question if you have not read it. 😘

f8dfc2ad606d38cce2f2a02a8a51ca8d

One of my favourite villains is Maven, only because he was able to fool me during the entire book, that little shit made me like him as much as I liked Cal and that is not okay.

6. Blue’s got her Raven Boys. Who makes up your bookish team?

I wouldn’t pick anyone else other than the actual Raven Boys. And you know what? I also want Blue Sargent. There’s no other bookish team I would like to be a part of, at least not right now.

7. Ronan is a bad ass with a sensitive side. What book have you read that was action packed but had beautiful emotional scenes as well?

A Court Of Mist And Fury, I mean, everything that happens in that book is pure gold, the romantic scenes, the action scenes, everything.

SPOILERS FOR A COURT OF MIST AND FURY!!!

How could I choose another book when there’s the soup scene when Rhys tells Feyre about his life, the atack in Velaris, the sentence “I will bow before no one and nothing but my crown.” and then he bows to his High Lady, and finally, THAT ENDING!!

8. Noah has a heart of gold. Who has touched your heart recently?

Many things have touched my heart recently but here are the top ones:

1. People risking their lives to save animals from the floods of Hurricane Harvey. That makes me believe that humanity is not lost after all, people still have enough love in their hearts to help the ones in need.

2. “You’re not you” is a movie I saw 2 days ago and it is so fantastic and emotinal. I have never seen a movie like this before, showing you that even tough you’re ill, you have to live and showing that you are still able to touch people, to change them and that you are still worthy of love.

3. This cheesy video I saw 2 days ago and I actually liked it. I don’t like this kind of thing normally but this guy held a very important topic in his video, which is the fact that society expects men to be heartless creatures, covered with masculinity and showing no feelings.

9. Calla is a woman who speaks her mind and puts her foot down when necessary. Who is your favorite strong female character?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how Inej Ghafa is such a strong character, she came from where she came from and she still is the best at her job and the one Kaz Brekker trusts the most. Besided, the fact that she wants to help others that are in the same position as she once was is a very honorable thing to do.

10. Chainsaw is an awesome Raven boy pet. If you could have one “exotic” pet…what would it be? What would you name it?

By the way, Chainsaw is more than just a pet, okay!?!?

And I would have a Koala, because they are adorable and I would put him in my backpack and bring him with me everywhere.

When it comes to his name, oh boy, I was never good with names (but so is Ronan), I guess I would call him Azriel and then I could just call him Az! I’m getting excited! Or Fred, it would be an amazing name to a koala! 😆😍

I’m editing this on my phone so I might have let some typos pass. 😩

If you have read The Raven Cycle, comment letting me know your thoughts (meaning: let’s fangirl about it together 😁). But I have not read The Raven King so be careful with the spoilers!

Top 5 Thursday: Books that have personal meaning to me

Everytime I read a book it means something to me, I’ll probably remember something about it forever, but these books are different, these books mean special things to me, personal things.

I can’t choose only one book out of this series, I always loved them all. When I was a kid, my godmother used to give me tons of books, she thought every ocasion was good to give a book, I remember that she gave the first ones when I didn’t even knew how to read. Geronimo Stilton was the series that marked my childhood the most.

Geronimo Stilton was and still is a big part of my life, I own 15 books and also some movies. I don’t quite know why this was such an important thing on my childhood, I devored those books, I believe they were the first books I read about mystery and crime solving. Today I consider it to be the series that got me into reading.

  • Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix: Goodreads

I’ll admit it, please don’t throw rocks at me, I read Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire before I read the rest, actually I’m reading them in order now.

There I was, a 12 year old girl spending some days on her uncle’s house, with a 800 pages book on her hands, excited like hell to read it. I read this book in 4 days and as soon as I finished it, I started rereading it.

Everytime I am feelling down I reread this book or the one that is bellow this one. Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix still is, to this day, my favourite Harry Potter book and I believe it is going to keep like this.

4.12 stars of rating on goodreads, pretty good, but not enough, this book deserves all the starts for a simple reason: it has the character that everyone in the book community was waiting to read about.

Cath is like us, a fangirl, she reads, she writes and she is considered one of the most relatable characters I have ever read about. Fangirl has different and unique characters.

Relatablility is the thing that puts this book in this list, every time I read Fangirl it speaks to me in a very magical way, I can, without even trying, to place myself in Cath’s place.

I read this book in an afternoon, it was the fastest book I read in my life, I loved every single sentence of it and I will read it and recommend it and quote it to anyone who believes gender inequality is a non-existent thing. *Mr.whompa loompa, president of USA*.

Capturar.PNG

Because of this book you can see that in my blog’s sidebar, specifically on my Get To Know Me text, I consider myself a feminist and I’ve been doing it since I read this book, it doesn’t mean I wasn’t a feminist before, I just started calling myself a feminist then because I realized that it was a bigger issue than i thought.

This book made me the activist that I am today, last year, in the same class, I managed to make a public speaking about Gender Equality ( in which a got 20/20) and a essay about environment, two things that I am really passionate about.

I finished reading this amazing book in June 18th, I created this blog a couple of days after it. This was the book that got me into blogging.

None of my friends reads fantasy, most of them are into contemporary and romance so when I finished acomaf I had an urge to talk to someone about it, it was he best book I read this year and the feelings that it left me with were taking over my life. Therefore I created High Lady’s Library which now is big part of my life.

Summer Reader Book Tag

Summer. Probably my least favorite season. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer vacation but as I am a person that doesn’t stand hot weather, summer is not for me.

But there is one thing that I love about summer: even though it is so hot I can barely exist, I have plenty of time to read, my summer vacation started a month ago and I already read 7 books (now that I think about it is not that great but is better than before 😶).

Today, I’ll be doing another tag, called the Summer Reader Book Tag, this tag was created by islandOFdri, you should check her video out, you can find her on youtube.

  • Lemonade: Pick a book that started off bitter but got better.

I’ve Got Your Number is a book that I took a long time to get into. When I finished The Sea Of Monsters, I could feel that I was falling deep into a big reading slump so I just decided to read a funny contemporary to kick it off.

For me, this book from Sophie Kinsella was slow in the beginning, that lead me to think that this was a shitty book but suddenly things started to happend and I was sucked into the story and overall it was just a super funny and cute contemporary.

chf-dduuaaa3nbg.jpg

  • Golden Sun: Pick a book that made you smile beyond compare.

A Court Of Mist and Fury was probably the awesomest book I read this year. It was a book that me smile beyond compare, i cried too, but I smiled so much whenever the Inner Circle was together, they are so funny, especially Cassian and Mor.

  • Tropical Flowers: Pick a book set in a foreign country.

Name a book, I bet it is not set in Portugal, I have read few books that take place in my country, so I’m going to take this question to another level:

Tropical Flowers: Pick a book set in a foreign world.

A Court Of Thorns and Roses series, what else could I choose? Despite the war, Prythian is where I would like to exist, I would be the person that would belong to a court but live her life traveling from court to court to keep the peace between them, besides I would be able to connect with all of the High Lord’s  (except Tamlin, I just want to punch Tamlin, right now).

I took a quiz and it seems that I belong to the Dawn Court, which one do you belong in? Leave a comment letting me know.

  • Tree Shade: Pick a book in which a mysterious or shady character was first introduced.

For this I’ll choose The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater. I’ve got to admit that I didn’t like this new mysterious character at first, but as I went more into the book, this character gained a place in my heart and his actions showed that he deserved it. Personally, I loved that the author didn’t focus only on the younger romances, she made this as realistic as it could be.

(If you haven’t read this series, what are you doing reading this? Get out of here, run to the nearest bookstore and buy The Raven Boys, you’ll not regret it.) 😉😉

  • Beach Sand: Pick a book that was grainy, and the plot barely developed

I actually don’t remember reading this book that much, I remember what it was about and that I liked it but I think not many things happend in it, An Abundance Of Katherines it is probably my least favorite book written by John Green, I think it was funny though.

large-31.jpg

  • Green Grass: Pick character(s) that were full of life, making you smile.

There are so many characters that are awesome answers for this, but I am only going to choose two of them. The first one is Grover from the Percy Jackson series, Grover is just so adorable, he is caring, sensible, connected to the nature and just so happy, it makes me happy all of his jokes and his innocence. The second character is Blue Sargent (The Raven Cycle), the fact that she is different, all of her trees in her room, her home and her family, the way she dresses, the fact that she is full of power, she tranpires life and creativity.

  • Watermelon: Pick a book that had some juicy secrets.

I’ll Give You The Sun is a book involved in secrets, it tells the story of twins, Noah and Jude, each of them caries a secret that can save and destroy the other, they keep it for them and that destroys them and their relacionship. In this book we follow their story as they unravel all the secrets and find their way back to each other.

  • Sun Hat: pick a book that had a vast, big universe/setting.

I was going to answer Harry Potter and that is the obvious answer, but as it’s obvious my answer is a new obsession of mine: Six Of Crows. I love how this book is so complex with all the different places where all of the characters come from and all of the languages they speak, I believe this was the setting for the Grisha Trilogy too, but I don’t quite remember.

large (3).jpg

  • BBQ: pick a book in which a character was portrayed as a hunk.

I’ll tell you about a series that has a bunch of characters portrayed as a hunk and let me tell you that just like Blue, I sometimes feel like I am in love with all of them: THE RAVEN CYCLE.

I know I’ve already talked about them so much, but I can’t not to, I am in love with that series, I wanted to jump into the third book as soon as I finished The Dream Thieves.

In this series, you’re introduced to 5 main characters: Blue Sargent, Adam Parrish, Ronan Lynch, Richard Gansey III and Noah Czerny, the four guys are the ones that give name to the first book: The Raven Boys, as they the raven boys and since I started this series, I’ve seen all of the boys as hunks.

I found this opening credits for the series the other day and let me just tell you that if this is not the physical representation of The Raven Boys, i don’t know what is.

Just to clarify, I need to say that I have no ideia how to talk less in tags, I just ramble in every answer, sorry if this is too long.

Feel free to answer a question in the comments, I would very much like if you did. 😉😉

Love, Eliana.

1. What book/series got you into reading?

Top 5 Thursday: Books I Love But I Don’t Own

I’ve created a series in this blog called Top 5 thursday, which means every thursday I’ll be revealing some kind of top 5.

This week I’ll be sharing with you the top 5 books I love but, unfortunately, don’t own, because life’s a struggle when you are a muggle.

  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stievfater:

17675462“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we’ve never been before.

My Rating: 4⭐

  • Heir Of Fire by Sarah J. Maas:

trono2bde2bcristal2b32b-2bsarah2bj2bmaasCelaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak―but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life―and her future―forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?

The bestselling series that has captured readers all over the world reaches new heights in this sequel to the New York Timesbest-selling Crown of Midnight. Packed with heart-pounding action, fierce new characters, and swoon-worthy romance, this third book will enthrall readers from start to finish.

My Rating: 5⭐

  • Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan:

percy_jackson27s_greek_godspercy_jackson27s_greek_gods“A publisher in New York asked me to write down what I know about the Greek gods, and I was like, Can we do this anonymously? Because I don’t need the Olympians mad at me again. But if it helps you to know your Greek gods, and survive an encounter with them if they ever show up in your face, then I guess writing all this down will be my good deed for the week.” So begins Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, in which the son of Poseidon adds his own magic–and sarcastic asides–to the classics. He explains how the world was created, then gives readers his personal take on a who’s who of ancients, from Apollo to Zeus. Percy does not hold back. “If you like horror shows, blood baths, lying, stealing, backstabbing, and cannibalism, then read on, because it definitely was a Golden Age for all that.” Dramatic full-color illustrations throughout by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco make this volume–a must for home, library, and classroom shelves–as stunning as it is entertaining.

My Rating: 4⭐

  • We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie:

22738563What does “feminism” mean today? That is the question at the heart of We Should All Be Feminists, a personal, eloquently-argued essay—adapted from her much-viewed TEDx talk of the same name—by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the award-winning author of Americanah and Half of a Yellow Sun.

With humor and levity, here Adichie offers readers a unique definition of feminism for the twenty-first century—one rooted in inclusion and awareness. She shines a light not only on blatant discrimination, but also the more insidious, institutional behaviors that marginalize women around the world, in order to help readers of all walks of life better understand the often masked realities of sexual politics. Throughout, she draws extensively on her own experiences—in the U.S., in her native Nigeria, and abroad—offering an artfully nuanced explanation of why the gender divide is harmful for women and men, alike.

Argued in the same observant, witty and clever prose that has made Adichie a bestselling novelist, here is one remarkable author’s exploration of what it means to be a woman today—and an of-the-moment rallying cry for why we should all be feminists.

My Rating: 5⭐ – I have no clue why I rated it with only 4⭐ on Goodreads, i was fucking crazy.

  • A Court Of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas: (May contain spoilers for ACOTAR)

acomaf-cover1Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas’s masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.

My Rating: 5⭐

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Hi, fellow book lovers, welcome to my first post on this blog. Today I’ll be doing the mid year book freak out tag and I was tagged by adashofash on youtube (even though she tagged everyone that wanted to be tagged, I feel pretty cool for saying that 😁😁). This tag was created by Earl Grey Books and ReadLikeWildFire, both on Youtube.

I actually read only a total of 13 books this year, cause school was taking up the majority of my time, but now that I’m free until September, I’ve plenty of time to catch up on my reading schedule.

Here it is, my mid year book freak out tag:

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017.

large

In 2017, one of the best books I read was We should all be feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I’ve read this book in literally one sitting, I came from school and I read it in one afternoon, it was just so enlightening to read and as I am a feminist myself, I think that this book is something that would really change the world’s prespective on feminism and on masculinity.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017.

I can’t choose a book other than A Court Of Mist and Fury because that book hit me right in the face, I remeber thinking that is was overhyped in the beginning, but God, it is not, IT IS NOT, when you-know-who moved out to you-know-where it was when this book got me hooked and it was GENIOUS!

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

A Court Of Wings and Ruin, a book that I haven’t read because I can’t find it anywhere near me ( the perks of living in Portugal ).

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

I was about to say Tower of Dawn but then this one popped up in my mind: Because You Love To Hate Me: 13 tales of villainy. I’ve been waiting for this book for so long and it comes out next month on July 11th. Who doesn’t like a good villan, am I right?

5. Biggest disappointment.

Thirteen Reasons Why was an awful read to me, I did like the idea of it, but I didn’t like the characters and it was just very confusing to me. After all, personally, I didn’t agree with Hannah because even though some of those kids were awful creatures, she could have ruined their lives just like they did to hers, and that kind of vengeance was a no from me.

Great tv show, though.

6. Biggest surprise.

I had to read a play for school a couple of months ago, it is called Felizmente Há Luar, translated it is Fortunately There’s Moonlight, and it is an intervention play where the moonlight represents the light that enables people to see the injustice in this world. Overall I really did enjoy this book.

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Maggie Stiefvater, I read The Raven Boys and now I already own the Wolves Of Mercy Falls triology. I am super pumped to read the rest of The Raven Cycle.

8. Newest fictional crush.85d29d2611d75220be827712a30ea318

I really love Rhysand, but I feel that my newest fictional crush is Azriel, all of that darkness and the mistery and the hotness and the shadows really got me into him, I’m super excited to see him more in ACOWAR.

9. Newest favourite character.

Probably Adam from The Raven Boys because he is adorable and the fact that he wants to build his life with his work is something so honorable to do.

10. Book that made you cry.

Believe it or not, I am such a cry baby but I haven’t cried because of a book this year. Have I turned into a heartless creature?? 😱😱

11. Book that made you happy.

I think Harry Potter has the power of making me happy no matter what, so for this the answer is Harry Potter and The Prisioner Of Azkaban, in this book I think we can see the first good bit of Harry’s family and it is amazing how that comes up with all the confusion of who killed who. 5 stars, like always.

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

I Was Here has a really pretty cover, as well as the inside.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I want to finish rereading the Harry Potter series, I want to finish the Percy Jackson series, and I want to read ACOWAR and the Lunar Chronicles, don’t think I’ll make it through everything but I’ll try.

14. Favourite Book Community Member (Blogger, Booktuber and Bookstagrammer).

Blogger is Twirling Pages, who now has co-blogers and expensive merch that I’m not able to buy.

Booktuber is Katherine’s Reads, she has just an amazing channel and personallity as well.

Bookstagrammer is @dreamimg_mel like it will always be.

This is the end of this gigantic post, hope you enjoyed it. 😘😘
