#TheReadingQuest Wrap Up and Why I Am A Failure

Hello fellow bookworms!

Today I’ll be sharing with you the books I read for #TheReadingQuest, if you want you can go ahead and see which books where included in my TBR, but that doesn’t matter anymore because I read only 1 book from there.

I am writing this as fast as I can while I am waiting for the email that is going to tell me if I’ll be a student in the university I want, reason number 1 why I am doing it: IF I DON’T DO SOMETHING I AM GOING TO DIE OF ANXIETY! Reason number 2: If the email says a bad thing, then I’ll curl up in a ball and I’ll never blog again or do anything else.

Here they are, the book I read for #TheReadingQuest or, as I like to call it, one more reason why I suck.

Can you see the little squares saying “A book set in a different world” and “The first book of a series”? Right there, those are the reasons why I fail, because I didn’t even complete my path!!

And that’s a wrap, it took me 3 hours to make this whole post and the email hasn’t come yet. I’m going to read Cinder, I hope I can finish it before this readathon ends.

UPDATE: It is now almost 11pm of the next day and I just want to say that 1) I didn’t finish Cinder and 2) I got into the college I wanted!!

Did you participate in #TheReadingQuest?? If so, how many books did you read? Did you enjoy it?

August Wrap Up and September TBR

Hello, fellow bookworms.

Today I’ll be sharing with you the books I read in the month of August, in which I didn’t read as much as I planned, and my September TBR, in this month I plan to read as much as I can before going to college.

Capturar

As I already said, August was not the best reading month for me, I was planning to read 10 books in this month and I ended up completing only 6.

I tried to keep up with my TBR for #TheReadingQuest, but it was impossible, I completed one book from my original TBR and I’m thinking about craming some of the books I read in some other challenges, we’ll see in ten days when I finally post my wrap up for the challenge and realize I failed it.

I already read 41% of Blue Lily, Lily Blue and even though I wanted to finish it in August, I decided to give myself a reading break in yesterday’s afternoon, watch some movies and work on bullet jounal for a bit.

I’ve heard that this book is the best out of the four and I’m really enjoying it so far. I have to say that Maggie Stiefvater is the queen of prologues, the first pages of her books are THE BEST! Also, as I go on with this series, I’m able to see more and more about the relashionship between these characters and I love them so much.

Title: Hopeless (Hopeless #1)

Author: Colleen Hoover

Published: May 7th 2013 by Atria Books

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Overall Goodreads Rating: 4.34 stars

Synopsis: Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

hhh

I’ve been afraid to read this book for a long time, I guess it was because it dealt with a different topic and that topic scared me a bit. My godmother gave me the Hopeless duology (Hopeless and Finding Hope) as a graduation present and a week ago, I decided to forget the fear of being devastated by this book and I read it.

I am not going to say that it was the best book and because of that everyone should read it, but it was a good and unique book and I believe everyone should read it.

I’m going to tell a bit of the story for the people who have not read this book and then I’ll tell you my thoughts in every single sentence in this book.

We are introduced to a character named Sky as she prepares to go to school for the first time, she’s a 17 year old, but her life is a bit different from other teenagers’. Sky was home schooled, she is not allowed to have a phone, to watch tv or interact with any form of technology due to the fact that her mum doesn’t believe in technology.

Sky wants to go to college but she understands that she need some credits that are only given to her in high school, the plan is to go to school for only a couple of months, get the credits and get out. But, even though she doesn’t want to admit it, going to school becomes a difficult task now that her best friend is studying abroad in Italy during that semester.

Alone, in a school that is full of rumours and mean girls, our main character has to work hard not to let her emotions show, not to let them know how she really feels, I mean, how she doesn’t.

But Sky’s life turns completly upside down as soon as she is “chased” by a guy named Dean Holder in the supermarket, a hopeless boy with a temperamental personallity, that hides a secret that will break her.

It was really nice to see the relationship between Holder and Sky evolve and become that strong and adorable romance full of twists and turns. Overall, it was a really nice emotional roller coaster.

I must admit that the writing is not the best, the environment surronding the plot is not something we have never seen, but the two main characters are both really intense and so are their problems, the plot is really unique and so is the fact that the author took a taboo topic and made it the main story in this book.

I almost forgot to say this, but even though Hopeless is a very intense and heavy book, the characters are really funny, especially Holder and Sky, so don’t be scared by that.

Something I really enjoyed was something that not many contemporary authors are able to do, and that is the fact that I already new the secret that Sky kept from herself, but for the life of me, I would never expect Holder’s secret to be the one it turned out to be and the second half of the book will throw so many surprises at you, you’ll end up on the ground.

Capturar

If you have not read Hopeless yet, I recommend that you leave this post as soon as you can, unless you would like to be spoiled (yes, there are people who like to get spoiled and I was once one of them).

tenor

I had many problems with this book, atcually, I pushed myself to read it and I’m glad I did, because that second half of the book was a freaking emotional roller coaster and all the surprises that happened in it were what made me like this book.

Firstly, I want to start by saying that the way Colleen Hoover wrote this book was not the best, I used to read fanfiction on wattpad and in the beginning the writing style looked similar to the one I found on that website. As the book went on, I don’t know if it changed or I got used to it, but the writing got better.

Something I really struggled with was the main character, when I was first introduced to her I thought “This character is really pissing me off and I don’t like her”, but again as I aproached the middle of the book, she became more relatable and I realised that she was really unique as a character.

But there were really good points in this book, Hopeless was based around Sky’s story of an abusive father and I think that abuse is something that we don’t see that much on literature, it’s kind of a taboo topic on contemporary.

Almost everyday, we hear about monsters like Sky’s father on Tv, hurting their children or even strangers and I guess we need more awereness about this topic, thousands of kids are living the same things as this book’s main character and that is a monstrous thing. There are many things you can use to protect yourself from monsters like him and if someone is abusing you, physically or psichologically, tell someone, even if you don’t trust the people around you, you can tell nurses or doctors around you, they’ll help and that person will suffer for the rest of his life and you’ll be safe again.

Besides the unique topic this author talked about, I really apreciated, again, the fact that she surprised me so many times, I had no idea of many things surrounding Sky’s life since her mum died.

The thing that really surprised me was, of course, the fact that Karen kidnapped Sky and even though she lied to her daughter for 13 years, I really understand Karen’s motives, she was abused by her brother and she didn’t want him to keep doing that to her niece. Besides, I really enjoyed when Holder told Sky that he only blamed her mother for not taking Less too, I think that was another important thing I really liked about Holder.

The fact that Sky didn’t remember who she was until she was addopted by Karen was a really nice thing and it added so much mistery to the book, you are learning about Sky’s past as she remembers and I guess that is what really sucks you into the story.

There was another thing I didn’t like that much in this book, but it gave a realistic vibe to it, it was the fact that Sky’s father died instead of going to jail and pay from his crimes. Jail is full of criminals but even they can see how horrible child abuse is so rapist don’t blend in very well, when rapists go to prison they suffer until the end of their days. That is what that man deserved, to suffer like Sky suffered, and Less, and Holder and Karen. Death is too good for monsters like him.

The last thing I’ll talk about is Holder and Sky’s romance. Their story is filled with adorable and cheesy stuff that I really liked, even though I am not a huge romance fan, this couple’s moments gave me butterflies. Holder is the temperamental guy that everyone loves because actually he is an adorable cinnamon roll, and who doesn’t like to read a story with that guy in it?

Overall this was a good book with some flaws and a story that felt very real.

“The sky is always beautiful. Even when it’s dark or rainy or cloudy,it’s still beautiful to look at….it’ll be there no matter what…and I know it’ll always be beautiful.”

“I want you to keep them open…because I need you to watch me give you the very last piece of my heart.”

“It’s real, Six. You can’t get mad at a real ending. Some of them are ugly. It’s the fake happily ever afters that should piss you off.”

“Sometimes you have to choose between a bunch of wrong choices and no right ones. You just have to choose which wrong choices feels the least wrong.”

“What do you do when you’re bored? You don’t have
internet or TV. Do you just sit around all day and think about how hot I am?”

I found this poster and I thought about sharing it here, I think this is going to be on my wall soon.

I’m almost sure, no one will make it to the end and read the 1300 words I wrote. Why do I need to make gigantic posts?

If you read this book, let me know what you thought about it and if you didn’t let me know if you’re thinking about reading it.

Antecipated Releases For The Rest Of 2017

The first half of this year, 2017, was full with awesome movies, books and even tv shows coming out. This year we got to see Spiderman Homecoming, which I haven’t seen yet, and This Beautiful Fantastic, also the tv adaptation for Thirteen Reasons Why came out in March. In the bookish area the best releases for me were A Court Of Wings and Ruin and  The Gentleman’s Guide For Vice and Virtue, even though I haven’t picked up a single book that was released this year, besides a comic book that comes out in October.

This post, as it is explained in the title, is only dedicated to books, movies and tv shows that aren’t out yet.
