The Harry Potter Spells Tag

Greatings fellow book lovers.

I think a big important thing about the book community is Harry Potter, half, or maybe more, of us consider J.K. Rowling a queen, me included. Harry Potter is one of the best series ever, I would be the happiest person ever if I could enter in this amazing world.

This book tag was originally created by Turtle Symphaty on youtube, I’ll link the video here but for some reason it is no longer available.

Here it goes, the Harry Potter Spells Tag:

1. EXPECTO PATRONUM : A childhood book connected to good memories.

CapturarNever Kiss a Witch! is the obvious answer for this one. I loved this book so much when I was a kid, I remember it was the first book that gave me the butterflies.

Something that I really enjoyed as a kid, actually nowadays i still enjoy it, is when the main character understands that the popular guy doesn’t deserve her attention and she finds other person that actually likes her, I believe I always valued the fact that you know that you deserve better than some stupid guy who believes he’s the center of the universe.

When I was looking for the goodreads link for Never kiss a witch!, I found out that it is actually a series and not a stand alone like I always thought it was, now I feel bad for my younger self, I should have read them all, they were really funny and sweet.

2. EXPELLIARMUS: A book that took you by surprise.

When I received this book I must admit that I was kind of disappointed, my sister had received Everything, Everything in the same day and I was just like “How can she have the book that I’ve been craving for?”. Overall, I ended up dnf-ing Everything, Everything and giving 4 starts to Finding Audrey on goodreads.

I am fully aware that Finding Audrey is full of flaws, the writing is not perfect, the side characters are not the best, but it doesn’t matter that much when you have a main character dealing with an issue that is very relatable nowadays, but even though this is a usual subject, it is never analysed enough and the way that the author deals with anxiety in here is really genuine.

 3. PRIOR INCANTATO: The last book you read.

I was very convinced that I would hate The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater as soon as I picked it out, but I wanted to see if the hype was true. When I finished it here’s what I published on goodreads:

Capturar

Maggie Stiefvater has the power of leaving me speechless whenever I finish one of her books, I can never organize my ideias and my feelings. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE!

4. ALOHAMORA: A book that introduced you to a genre you had not considered before.

I have never been into non-fiction before, I thought that I wouldn’t like it, but turns out I read an amazing book called We should all fe feminists, since then I have read another book that was non-fiction and now I am really looking forward to read more books about feminism.

The other day, I came across this post about We Should All Be Feminists and I believe you should read it, the author has an amazing point of view about this topic and she has so much talent when it comes to writing.

I know that I talk about this book in every single tag, but I love it with every cell I have. 😁

5. RIDDIKULUS: A funny book you’ve read.

I think we all agree that the Percy Jackson books are funny as hell, the book I am going to choose for this one is Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, I read it last year and I remember laughing so much while I was reading it.

I learned some things with this book:  1. I was right when I said that greek mythology was not boring at all; 2. HERA THREW LITTLE HEPHAESTUS OUT OF THE WINDOW! 3. That was lots of incest between the gods. 😒😒

oconnor.jpg

6. SONORUS: A book you think everybody should know about.

I was here by Gayle Forman is a book that deals with suicide so you should have that in mind before picking it up.

Cody and Megan were best friends, inseparable, until Megan commites suicide and suddenly Cody starts to question how much did she actually knew about Megan’s recent life. Cody can’t handle the fact that Megan is dead, so she tries to find people to blame for her death.

This is an emotional story about redemption and “finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss”.

I think that suicide is kind of a tabu topic on our society, you don’t want to talk about it when it happens in other families, you are not able to talk about it when it happens in yours. This has to change.

Something you must keep in mind is that this is your life, and even if you don’t have a saying on not getting depressed, you have a saying on getting better, you choose to get better. There is always something worth being alive for. Life is a gift, please don’t throw it away.

If you want to talk, you can contact me on twitter, talking makes things better, talking to a stranger may be easier than talking to a loved one.

7. OBLIVIATE: A book or spoiler you would like to forget having read.

If you read The Death Cure and died on page 250 you know what I am talking about. I got spoiled for a mind blowing part of the Maze Runner trilogy and even though I cried like a baby when I read it, I believe it would have been diferent if I didn’t knew about it, it would have surprised me and killed me.

8. IMPERIO: A book you had to read for school.

giphy

I read many books for school, I liked one. I just think that it would be better if they upgraded the books that we are forced to read to books that actually mean something to our society, that can make us better citizens.

The books I read gave an awesome ideia of what was the society in 1875 and 1717, it really does, but we should be reading about books that give us an ideia of the poor society we live in nowadays.

That’s why I liked “Felizmente há luar!” (fortunately there’s moonlight!) because, unlike the others, they talk about people that are willing to fight for what’s right and for what they believe in.

9. CRUCIO: A book that was painful to read.

Everything, Everything, I hated the main character, it was disappointing to read such a genuine ideia being thrown out.

10. AVADA KADAVRA: A book that could kill (interpret as you will).

Leigh Bardugo ia a genious and Six Of Crows took over my life. The back stories of the six main character can kill you, I am warning you, it is emotional as hell.

As I’ve said before, if someone ever decides to make an adaptation out of this duology, PLEASE, let me play Nina, I’ll probably kill an amazing adaptation but PLEASE!

#TheReadingQuest Sign-Up Post and TBR

Hello fellow book lovers.

I recently decided that I will join another reading challenge, I loved Booktube-a-thon with every cell I have and I want to be able to keep as connected to the book community as possible.

This reading challenge is called #TheReadingQuest, it takes place between August 13th and September 10th and it is based on a bingo board, the path you take on the bingo board is entirely depent on your choosen Character Class. I am certainly not the qualified enough to talk about this game so check out the post about this in the author’s blog: @readatmidnight.

Also I would love to give an aplause to CW of Read, Think, Ponder‘s beautiful artwork, you should definetly go give her some love on her blog.

If you want to join #TheReadingQuest you must follow what this post says, the sign up form is only open until August 13th.

I decided to choose The Mage’s path because that is my kind of read and it completly is what I am in the mood for. As the game says: As wielders of spells and witchcraft, these players will conjure and summon their way through the First Down path on the quest. Their tomes contain magic and whispers of alternate lands. So, I’ll be playing as a Mage.

As I am really bad in this photo editing thing, this is what my character ID card looks like, please don’t mind the fact that it has very different fonts than what it was supposed to. 😁😁

reading-quest-board1.png

As I said before, my character is going to take the first path down on the quest, I believe you can see it if you look for it in the board, it starts with “A book with a one word title” and it ends in “The first book of a series”, my path is connected by the yellow dots.

#TheReadingQuest TBR

Even though I will change this TBR in the first days of the reading challenge, here it is, every challenge from the Mage’s path and some additional challenges I pretend to do as well.

🌙 A book with a one word title

🌙 A book that contains magic

Additional Challenge: I don’t plan on reading all of the books bellow, but as I don’t know which challenges I want to do it yet, here are the ones that appealed to me the most:

🌙 Animal Companion : Book Refering an animal on the cover

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertally.

July Wrap-Up

This month was my best reading month this year and I am extremely happy about it. Here are the books I read in July:

I started this book on the last day of June and I finished on July 2nd, this book was really easy to read because it was really fast passed and I got hooked to it very quickly. You can read my review about The Sea Of Monsters if you want a deeper view of my opinion on this book.

This book was much hard for me to get into, but once I got to half way through it, it became faster and the events started to happend very quickly, which was a blast to me. I must admit that I was almost able to figure out the ending when I was in the middle of this Sophie Kinsella’s book, but it was really fun to trying to figure it out, I was always full of doubts and thinking about conspiracy theories. Overall, I enjoyed this book, I gave it 3.5 stars and if you’re looking for a cute contemporary with fun characters and an intriguing plot, this is the book for you.

Now that I finally read Six of Crows, I regret to put it down for so long, because it was amazing, it is one of my favorite reads of 2017 and I can’t find a single flaw in it. Leigh Bardugo became my queen.

The characters from this books all have extensive stories worth telling and all have a porpuse for their lifes, Six Of Crows follows the prespectives of 6 different people and I must admit that there was not a single one I didn’t enjoy to read. The plot is unique and every time you think you figured the book out, you didn’t, I had so many theories through out the whole book and I still wasn’t able to figure out the mind blowing end.

I didn’t make a review for Six Of Crows, but there are some awesome ones all over the internet, I’ll link here and here two of them. Despite that, I created a Six Of Crows Dream Cast and I think that looks pretty cool.

– BOOKTUBE-A-THON WRAP UP –

Finished Books: 4

Number of Pages: 1189

Completed Challenges: 6

– Read a book in a day challenge & Read a book you “bought” because of the cover challenge

Random Illustrated Facts is everything I expected it to be, really fast paced and entertaining. The doodles in this book are amazing and some of these facts caught me off guard.

Did you know that carrots used to be purple and they are actually bad for rabbits? Also, it seems that, in Georgia, it is illegal to curse in front of a dead body.

This book isn’t out yet, it was kindly sent to me by Net Galley. Random Illustrated Facts comes out October 31st and you need to trust me when I say that whoever you are and whatever you like, you’ll find this book enjoyable. Here you’ll find facts about history, animals, food, science and overall just some random stuff that will have you shocked, and you can be a walking encyclopedia of weirdness just like Sheldon Cooper.

– Read a hyped book challenge & Read a book with a character that is very diferent from you.

The Titan’s Curse was a book that I tought I was going to enjoy more than I did, don’t get me wrong, I liked it, but I had higher expectations for it because I hadn’t been spoiled with a movie like in the first two. It turned out to be an okay read on the first half of it, but as soon you-know-who does you-know-what and is sacrificed for the others that were also in the quest, I started to get attatched to it and I very much enjoyed the end of it.

I gave this book 3.5 stars and I am currently reading the forth book in the series which is The Battle Of The Labyrinth.

– Read a book outdoors

When I was a little kid, I used to watch a cartoon based on The Little Prince, I watched it everyday, I remember when me and my sister talked about the adventure of that day’s episode or of how cute the fox was. Because of that, reading this book brought a warm feeling to my soul.

This book brought back the kid that I once was sitting across the table from my sister looking at the tv, the little kid that didn’t have marks on her face for frowning too much, the kid who didn’t care about adult’s problems, the friend that the little prince was so desperate to find.

Now, I fully understand what the friendship between the rose and the Little Prince means and the quote “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” has now a different meaning that it did an hour ago, when I started reading this book.

– Read a book with a person on the cover

“In that moment, Blue was a little in love with all of them. Their magic. Their quest. Their awfulness and strangeness. Her raven boys.”

I can’t express my feelings for this book, it was great and you seriously need to read it, you’ll love it, I promess you, and then you’ll understand what i feel. I can’t organize my opinions about it, and I am really sad because of it, I don’t know what to say without spoiling the whole book, so will just tell you some bits and pieces.

The Dream Thieves is a book that keeps you addicted from the first page, I felt like this book was mostly based on the relashionships between the main characters, especially Ronan. Also I need to say that I am so in love with him (yes, I know he is a fictional character) that I feel like if I don’t find someone exactly like him, I’ll die without ever having a boyfriend.

Again, as I am not able to express myself enough, I’ll leave links here and here that will guide you to two amazing review for The Dream Thieves.

I hope you all had an amazing month of July and a wish you all an awesome August full of reading and getting over huge TBR piles. 😘
